Emergency Assistance for Irish Citizens in Slovakia

The Embassy of Ireland in Bratislava operates a weekend out-of-hours service for Irish citizens requiring emergency assistance in Slovakia.

If you need emergency assistance over the weekend, dial the Embassy switchboard at (+421) 2 5930 9611, and leave a detailed message with a contact telephone number on the answering machine. The answering machine is monitored regularly and the officer on duty will contact you.

Alternatively, you can contact the 24-hour duty officer in Dublin at (+353) 1 478 0822.

Note: This service is strictly for emergencies only. Queries or requests that can wait until normal office hours will not be entertained.

Lost or Stolen Passports

If your passport has been lost or stolen you should take the following steps:

  • Report the incident immediately to the Embassy
  • Inform the police and obtain a police report acknowledging that you have reported the incident
  • Obtain two passport photographs
  • Submit an application for an Emergency Passport at the Embassy – Section 6 of the application form (Statement of Loss) should be completed

Once the necessary checks have been made, the Embassy may issue an Emergency Passport or an EU Emergency Travel Document.

Legal issues

The Embassy of Ireland does not intervene in private legal issues. If you need legal advice, the Slovak Bar Association offers a list of English speaking lawyers. The Embassy cannot recommend any particular lawyers, or vouch for their bona fides.
