Travel Between Ireland and Slovakia

Flights

Ryanair operates a direct service between Dublin and Bratislava a number of times a week. Aer Lingus operates a direct service from Dublin to Vienna’s Schwechat Airport which is approximately 40 minutes drive from Bratislava. There is a regular bus service between Schwechat Airport and Bratislava.

Travel by Rail 

Bratislava is situated at the centre of Europe and benefits from good rail connections to other European capitals such as Budapest, Prague and Vienna. It is also possible to travel extensively throughout Slovakia by rail.

Information for Motorists

You must hold a full driving licence to drive in Slovakia. Ensure that you have a valid Irish or international licence. If driving an Irish registered car, ensure that it is fully insured and that you carry your logbook, proof of insurance and NCT certificate (if appropriate). If you rent a car in Slovakia, please also carry your rental contract at all times. You must display a special permit if using the motorways. These can be purchased at service stations.
